Apple Keynote 9/9/09 Thoughts
So Apple had its annual September keynote today, and they used the opportunity to tweak the ipod lineup. They added video to the ipod nano, which is very compelling especially considering the price of $179 for 16GB. I really think that going to be the number one ipod seller over the next 6 months. Its a great Ipod and you’re doubling your capacity for $30 more compared to the 8GB at $149. Also the iPod Touch line was given a boost, by adding a 64GB for the price of $399, the 32GB (which I have and love) dropped to $299, and the 8GB fell to $199. Another change was that the iPod Shuffle was given different colors. And iTunes 9 was released.
I have a few complaints about this all. For one, I am tired of Apple releasing different colored iPods and acting as if that is an improvement to the line, and they did it again with the shuffles this time. And second, I would have loved to see something (camera and mic) added to the iPod Touch. I don’t think in my time following Apple, has there ever been a rumor that seemed so credible, that did not come to fruition. I have a touch and would have gotten the touch with the camera and mic almost instantly, if only Apple had given me the chance.
On the positive side, it was fantastic to see Steve Jobs on stage giving the presentation, and I thought it was very classy of him to give the shout out to organ donors at the beginning of the event. The man is a survivor, from his diagnosis and defeat of pancreatic cancer in 2004, to now having a liver transplant, it seems like nothing is going to keep him from being on that stage.
So there is my two cents on the Apple Keynote of 9/9/09, and I am really looking forward to the next event.
